Over the past three years nine high schools across East Lancashire, including Blackburn with Darwen, have taken part in the Pitching in programme. Pitching in is a creative educational programme to support school attendance. Young people take part in a series of workshops and activities, education and sport focused, at Ewood Park which are designed to highlight the importance of good schoool attendance whilst at the same time raising aspirations and building self confidence, self esteem and motivation. Our ongoing evaluation shows that the programme has had a positive and lasting impact on the 200 young people who have taken part and, for some, it had transformed their lives by providing a support structure to help them make the right life choices.
Pitching In is now moving into a new era and, following discussions with participating schools and young people, we are now able to provide a more flexible programme to support young people who are new to the programme or who are already involved.
The Pitching In programme is now fully accredited through the AQA unit award scheme.
