Time To Change
The 'Time to Change' programme offers young people aged 16-19 years the opportunity to take part in enjoyable group activity, affording new sporting experiences as well as the chance to develop new friendship circles and social skills.
A range of sports and physical activity, together with the powerful draw of Blackburn Rovers, is used to engage young people on to the programme. Particular focus is given to those from socially excluded groups, especially those who are experiencing emotional health distress. Sessions, delivered in partnership with a number of organisations such as Mind, Rethink, Jigsaw and supported by BwD PCT, include therapeutic activity which has been specifically designed to raise self-esteem and help those who are shy or withdrawn or who are otherwise finding it difficult to make friends and socialise.

Project objectives include:
- To increase opportunity for community engagement
- To improve the self esteem and social confidence of participants
- To reduce barriers to community engagement and to promote regular social contact
- To increase opportunity to participate in physical activity/competitions
- To promote user involvement in project development and delivery of training
- To provide a range of volunteering opportunities and support
The core 'Club' programme comprises a weekly 90 minute session over 10 weeks at time determined in consultation with participants and delivery partners, either during the day or in the early evening. Participants are actively encouraged to take ownership of the programme, helping to shape session content. In addition to sports and physical activity, accredited learning opportunities are also made available. Delivery venues are based in the heart of local communities to ensure easy accessibility for all.
The 'Time To Change' project also offers a number of volunteer opportunities for those who actively want to make a difference to the lives of others. Training is provided.
