Premier Health
Premier League Health is a unique £1.83 million programme funded by the New Football Pools to help improve the state of men's health, particularly in deprived areas, all over the country. The project, which targets males aged 18 and over, aim's to tackle issues as diverse as depression linked to unemployment, obesity and general poor physical health, as well as alcohol and substance abuse. It also encourage men to play more sport with training opportunities to become football coaches.
The Premier League Health Steering Group has recently confirmed funding for ten clubs to start projects immediately, with each targeting issues that are a particular problem in their own area.

The Blackburn Rovers Premier League Health project targets men of South Asian heritage in an area where residents are 45% more likely to die before reaching 75 than the national average. 95% more likely to die from lung cancer and 67% more likely to die from heart disease. The club uses football and badminton to engage the men and promote a health model of excellence leading to improved awareness of healthy lifestyles and cost effective and efficient delivery of health services.
