Olympic fever falls on Ewood Park
Pupils from St Christopher’s High School struck gold after being invited to an Olympic-themed badminton and table-tennis event at Ewood Park.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust's Premier League 4 Sport project, which aims to offer thousands of young people the chance to get involved in badminton, table-tennis, judo and volleyball ahead of the 2012 Olympics, teamed up with students from Mysercough College, who are studying football/sports studies at the Indoor Centre, to host the exciting event.
The participants, who have been training hard over the past few months to learn the skills and drills required for the two sports, were put through their paces by national governing body-qualified coaches, before finishing off the sessions with small games and competitions. They were then rewarded for their hard work and dedication with an exclusive stadium tour.
Claire Newton, Rovers' Premier League 4 Sport co-ordinator, said: "With the Olympics getting closer, Olympic fever is hitting most schools in East Lancashire. We have been working closely with St Christopher’s in these sports and many pupils are now linking into the local badminton and table-tennis clubs. The emphasis of the day was for pupils to have fun and there was certainly a lot of laughter had by all."
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust is delivering a number of educational and sporting activities with an Olympic theme in the run up to this year’s Games.
