Rovers win robot war!
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust has won a table-tennis robot, worth £1,000, for providing the best media coverage in the country for the Premier League 4 Sport (PL4S) project.
Now in its second season, PL4S is a groundbreaking £3.8m partnership with the Government, which aims to offer thousands of young people the chance to get involved in table-tennis, volleyball, badminton and judo ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
After winning the boys’ category of both the Fred Perry Urban Cup (FPUC) and the PL4S’s North West table-tennis titles, Rovers secured excellent exposure for the project in both the local and national press.
A statement in the latest English Table-Tennis Association newsletter read: “The Blackburn Rovers team were quickly on the ball and started promoting the local FPUC activity with numerous local newspaper articles, huge website coverage and even included the FPUC in Blackburn Rovers’ matchday programmes.
“At one point I was struggling to keep up with the emails coming through from Claire Newton (PL4S co-ordinator) and Mick Moir (coaching officer), as there was so much great publicity. Congratulations to Claire and her team on winning the free table-tennis robot for the FPUC this year!”
