Thomas becomes referee mascot for the day

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust continued its scheme of providing a young local referee an unrivalled day of shadowing the matchday match officials

Last Saturday lucky referee, Thomas Kippax was the referee mascot for the clash with the Bristol City. Taking charge of the match was James Linington, he and his team walked Thomas through the pre-match instructions, test the goal line technology and go through all the preparations that a Football League referee goes through.

Referee mascot from Saturday, Thomas Kippax said refereeing is something he always thought he would be good at.

"I hope to try and go as far in refereeing as I possibly can. I first got in to refereeing as I communicate well and I'm a natural leader."

"I thoroughly enjoy it and look forward to my games each weekend."

It's an incredible opportunity for local referees to see and gain valuable experience in what a professional referee does on their matchday.

Thomas accompanied referee James Linington, assistant referees James Wilson, Steven Meredith and fourth official Daniel Middleton as Thomas lead the teams out shortly before kick off at Ewood Park last Saturday.
