NCS students donate £500 to Free Project

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust delivered their final NCS donation raised by students on this summer’s programme to Free Project.

BRCT member of staff Mick Whittle, who work primarily on the NCS programme at the Trust, paid a special visit to the charity based in the centre of Blackburn to hand over a £500 cheque.

The Free Project are a group of volunteers who serve food and provide clothing, toiletries, bedding and essential household goods to people who are homeless or living in temporary or transient shelter in the local area.

Emma Hammond, who is the volunteer co-ordinator at Free Project, was over the moon with the donation and explained how the charity would use the £500.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted we have received this money and we cannot thank the students and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust enough.

“It is absolutely wonderful and everyone at Free Project really appreciates the donation. We are in desperate need of a new laptop so this money will certainly help fund to buy a new one.”

Mick added: “The team at Free Project do an extremely important job in the area and full credit to the students that rose £500.We are pleased to hear that the money will be put to good use. “
